There are a lot of hypnonsis videos on YouTube, most of they have little or no significance, this is a great video, click here, Hypnotist Laura King was on the Rachel Ray show recently and helped Micheline overcome her fear of public speaking.  This same technique can be used to change any belief or habit you may have.  I have helped many people overcome fears ranging from public speaking to fear of spiders and snakes… it is all the same process.

Exercise makes you smarter22 Oct

One of my favorite shows of recent is “Brain Fitness Program”on PBS, they are showing how building your body also improves your brain as well as building your brain improves your body.  Be sure to watch this program as it will motivate you to exercise your brain as well as your body.

On Good Morning America (GMA) this morning they ran a great segment, “Raising Your IQ on the Treadmill”.  Scientific proof that exercise improves your mental facilities… with all the proof out there in surprises me that more companies don’t have gyms (or memberships) available for employees… if for no other health reasons, at least their employees can do better at their jobs.

Many people spend a significant amount of time and money trying to improve their quality of life… unfortunately it seldom includes lifting weights or doing a minimum amount of cardiovascular exercise.  All those hours at work, buying the latest gadgets, wearing the latest fashion is going to mean nothing if you cannot live to a ripe old age to enjoy it.

What are you doing to improve your chances of being around to enjoy your senior years, watching your children raise your grandchildren.  What would you give to have your health into your 60s, 70s or even into your 90’s.

Jack LaLanne has been giving us programs for longevity since the 1930’s… why haven’t we been listening?

I seldom watch daytime television but when I heard Tyra Banks was going to reveal her secret weapon for weight loss I had to tune in.  In the first sixty seconds I could see she was holding a pen… I was hoping she was going to say she lost weight by counting calories… and that is exactly what she said; her secret weapon is a pen and a food diary.  If you would like your own food dairy click here for my 20 year old dairy or click here for Tyra’s.

North Carolina state employees who smoke or are obese will have to pay ten percent more for their health insurance.  So I guess they have put a price on health.  NC is the second state to do so, Alabama was the first.  How long until your state adapts the idea?  For that matter, how long until private business will start to charge employees for who are over weight or smoke?

Many of you may have already heard about Stefan Johnson of USC’s weight lifting  accident – with a barbell on his neck.  The gym mishap as been widely publicized.  The incident dwarfed Paul Hammill’s dying in an similar bench pressing catastrophe in the media.

most people don’t know that this is not  this happens quite often…  just google weightlifting accidents and what videos, yes, videos of these types of accidents.  Can you imagine how many mishaps happen off camera?

You may have heard that a recent poll found 55% of Americans wish to be taxed on junk food providing the tax goes towards fighting obesity.  Hmm, I would think the money could be spent much more wisely… does anyone really think that the collected tax will actually get to its intended use?  Perhaps we should just spend the money now on our own health and nutrition program by simply eating healthier foods?

If you haven’t heard about the bodybugg, you may be missing out on the best tool available today to aid in weight loss… I see the creator, Neal Spruce, has left Apex and is about to release his new version of the unit.  Since its introduction in 2005 the bugg has gone three upgrades, I suspect this would considered Bodybugg v4.

For those of you who don’t know the bugg will tell you exactly how many calories you have burned in any given period.  Even though I teach people how to do that without the bugg, it is clearly an excellent route for those of you who can afford it and want to be REALLY accurate about counting calories.

I worked with Spruce in the 90’s when we were doing Nutritionalysis for Gold’s Gym…. I am excited to see what he has in store for us… knowing Neal I am sure it will not be cheap but it certainly will be AWESOME!

85 year old weight lifter, Shirley Coen, isn’t telling the whole story.18 Aug

Shirley Coen may have bench pressed 55 pounds and currently holds the record in her weight class but she isn’t telling us the whole story.  You see, Shirley is also building muscle, tendon and bone strength which is essential to to her continued longevity and fight off osteoporosis.  She will also be able to eat more because with the added muscle she can also burn more calories.  (Or perhaps she can lose weight if she chooses buy keeping her caloretic intake to less then she is burning.)

And let’s not forget that she is also developing a better sense of balance.  That’s right, moving free weights requires balance and many elderly are getting hurt by loosing their balance… why not work at improving it.  I recently told Karen, my wife, that one of the benefits I get from weightlifting is building balance and coordination, this carries over to my favorite sport, waterskiing.

We continue to here endless segments about preventative medicine with Obama currently pushing for health care reform… start you own preventative program with a weightlifting regime.  It is never too late to start, just look at Shirley.  She’s benefiting from exercise at 85 years old… so can we.

Well, here I am back at my first blog.  We had spammers hi-jack my blog and forum selling all the usual garbage we all get from spam…  it was easier to delete everything so for those of you who lost your posts in the forum I am sorry, it had to be done.
